Little Ringed Plovers Arrive

Summer is upon us but Spring migrants have just arrived in the shape of Little Ringed Plovers. Two have been seen at the Mere over the last couple of days and I photo'd them this morning at a local location. Looks like they were settling in but they are bit late, as I've already seen LRP chicks running around elsewhere.

Song Thrushes continue to make mornings enjoyable with their enthusiastic singing. Blackbirds have joined in too recently, but I still love the thrush's song

Butterflies have been few and far between but I have seen a Small Skipper and a Large Skipper at Wassand.

I didn't manage to capture the Small Skipper on the camera but the Large Skipper was well chilled and sat still long enough.

Our warblers have been quieter over the last few days. Whether this is because of the dull, cool mornings or because they have moved on from their burst of breeding activity I don't know. A few are still to be heard though with a switch from mainly Sedge Warblers to mainly Reed Warblers.

As with warblers, the singing Skylarks have reduced in number now with just a few still making themselves heard in the mornings. The Skylark's song is just a beautiful sound and I can't help but smile when I hear one.
